Trade between China and Japan has skyrocketed 4.82 billion USD in 1978 to 236 billion USD in 2007, an increase of 48 fold. During this period, Japan remained the biggest trading partner to China for 11 years’ running. In 2007, China, for the first time, rose as the biggest trading partner to Japan.

截至2008年8月，日本企业对华投资累计项目数为40643个，实际投资额644亿美元，投资遍及中国各地。2000年7月12日，日本丰田汽车公司在华第一个轿车整车生产企业——天津丰田汽车有限公司正式成立。

By the end of June, 2008, the accumulated number of Japanese invested projects in China reached 40,382, the realized investment stood at 64.4 billion USD. On July 12, 2000, Tianjin Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. the first whole car manufacturing company of Toyota in China, was founded.

The Long-term Trade Agreement Promoting the Development
签订于1978年的中日长期贸易协议是中日贸易中具有标志性意义的协议，历经1次延长，4次续签。截至2007年底，协议项下中国累计对日出口原油1.96亿吨、动力煤1.34亿吨、炼焦煤7603万吨，累计自日本引进先进技术和成套设备达508.2亿美元。

The China-Japan Long-term Trade Agreement signed in 1978 is a most significant agreement in the bilateral trade, and it was extended once and renewed four times. Under this agreement, the accumulated export of Chinese crude oil, steam coal, and coking coal reached 196 million tons, 134 million tons, and 76.03 million tons respectively. The value of advanced technology and sets of equipment imported Japan reached 50.82 billion USD.
