Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the Chinese government has kept on providing aid to Fiji within its capabilities. The China-aided projects contributed quite a lot to improve the local people’s living standard as well as to further promoting the friendly relationship between the two ries.

Abundant fishery resources in Fiji attract many Chinese enterprises to invest here. Since 1998, almost 20 Chinese fishery companies have ed Fiji as their base to develop the local fishery resources, with the view of developing the overseas market.

The bilateral trade between China and Fiji increased significantly after the diplomatic relations were established. In 1976, the bilateral trade volume was only $2.3 million. However, in 2007 the two-way trade reached $66.26 million and China became Fiji’s No. 7 trading partner.
